Start with the wavy sun tattoo: rays that ripple instead of pointing, around a plain circle or a face. It is only one option, though, because the rays are where sun designs differ most.
Choose your rays
- Wavy: soft, flowing lines with a hand-drawn, slightly boho feel.
- Straight and simple, a circle with short strokes. The most minimal option, easy to hide or show.
- Sunburst, from bold to dotwork, with long rays reaching far from the centre.
- Engraved and tribal: denser line work, flame-shaped points, or a symbol at the heart of the design.
Some designs set the sun in a landscape instead, rising or setting over a horizon. These read more like a postcard than a symbol and work well on a forearm or an ankle.
