Winter tattoos

Winter tattoos don't have to mean snow. These follow the other side of the season: long nights, cold peaks and the urge to stay under a blanket until spring.
What you'll find
Start with the night sky. Crescent moons, Saturn and the rest of the planets suit the darkest stretch of the whole year. More lunar designs sit in our moon tattoos.
The three winter zodiac signs are here as well. Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces show up in detailed celestial styles and as simple glyphs small enough for the inside of a wrist.
Then there's the cozy side. Sleepy animals, dozing cherubs and other sleep-themed designs for anyone who hibernates all season long. Small flames add a bit of warmth to an ankle or a collarbone, which is handy when everything else is hidden under wool. For peaks and ridgelines, head to mountain tattoos.
For the holidays and the cold months
A ski weekend, a holiday party, a bare-shouldered New Year's Eve outfit: winter tattoos fit all of it. Looking for festive designs? See Christmas tattoos.
Each one goes on in two minutes at most. It looks pale at first, which is normal, then darkens to blue-black over 24 to 48 hours. Keep it dry and don't rub it for 8 hours; after that, it's waterproof. Moisturize daily to help it last. Forearm, shoulder and nape hold it longest, up to two weeks, while hands fade sooner.
