Peaks come in several moods in this collection. Some are minimalist: a few fine lines, a row of chevrons, a whole range drawn in two or three strokes. Others are graphic, with blackwork ridges and solid shadows, or clean triangles under a sun. Then there are the scenes, where the mountain sets the stage for pines, a cabin or a campfire, often in dotwork. And a few pair the summit with another symbol, like a pulse trace that turns into a ridgeline or a circle of the four elements.
Styles cover fine line, blackwork, dotwork and geometric. Sizes go from tiny to tall. A small mountain tattoo fits the wrist, the ankle or a finger, while the larger compositions run down the spine or across the shoulders.
For a lot of people, mountains are about perseverance, a clear head, and holding a course. Others simply love the outdoors and want a reminder of the trail.
How it develops and how long it stays
The ink is jagua, and it develops inside the top layer of skin, which is why a fresh mountain tattoo looks pale and only reaches blue-black after 24 to 48 hours. Applying one is a two-minute job at most. Avoid water and rubbing for the first 8 hours; after that it’s waterproof through the shower, the pool and a sweaty hike, for up to two weeks. It wears off sooner on hands and fingers. The formula is vegan and PPD-free. More detail in how long temporary tattoos last.
Have a ridgeline you know by heart? Turn your own drawing of it into a custom tattoo, 3 copies minimum.
Pines without peaks are in forest tattoos, and the wider wanderlust theme lives in travel tattoos.
